welcome to The Cook’s Atelier

Whether you consider yourself a gourmet, a gourmand, or simply a foodie, The Cook’s Atelier offers the culinary program for you in Burgundy.  As the chef proprietor and cooking instructor, I am a long time advocate of the philosophy behind Slow Food and am committed to the connection between the farmer and the cook.

To a food and wine lover, Burgundy is heaven on earth and its unspoiled landscape and culinary traditions offer a real taste of authentic France.  The Cook’s Atelier offers programs that are geared to those interested in the food, wine and lifestyle of France with a focus on real food, made from scratch.  They are designed for curious home cooks with a passion for all things French as well as local and sustainable ingredients.

During the hands-on cooking classes, everyone has the opportunity to participate as much or as little in the preparation as their moods dictate.  For the serious cooks, this means learning the secrets to the perfect boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, learning to tie a roast, or the art of making confiture from the apricots we just picked up at the morning market.  For others, it means sipping wine as you take notes or honing your photography skills as you capture the moment.

The Cook’s Atelier caters to both the cooking aficionado and those who simply enjoy good food, good wine, and a passion for the joie de vivre.  In addition to the market tours and cooking classes, The Cook’s Atelier is available for small, private dinner parties by reservation.

The classes are taught in English and designed for small groups.  French translation is available upon request.  We explore the food and wine of this beautiful region while learning classic French techniques that will enable you to develop new skills to take home.

Classes fill up fast, so I recommend that you make your reservation at least two weeks in advance, but you should always check about availability for last-minute bookings.  Payment can be made through PayPal.  Please check here for current exchange rates.

market tour and cooking class

available year round by reservation

200 euros per person

While you are visiting Burgundy, join me for a market tour and hands-on cooking class inspired by the season.  We’ll meet in the morning for a café au lait and then head off to explore the local market where we will select the ingredients for your cooking class. As the class begins, crisp white aprons accompany a glass of chilled crémant, the region’s sparkling wine, in celebration of the bounty of Burgundy.

The menu is market inspired, local and organic and highlights the small artisan producers of the region.  After your cooking class, you’ll sit down for a five-course lunch and two glasses of wine specifically chosen to compliment the menu.  You are welcome to bring a favorite bottle of wine and there is no corkage fee.  You will learn the secrets of shopping and cooking as the French do, cooking with the seasons and the joy of returning to the table.
